A complete renovation transformed this former shotgun double into 1450 square-foot cottage. It now enjoys a smart floorplan with two bedrooms (one of which is a spacious master suite), two marble baths, a hard-working kitchen, walk-in closets, and a private patio area - perfect for outdoor dining.
Throughout this project, a special effort was made to create a home that is energy-efficient, easy to maintain, and, at the same time, exhibits a warm, cottage-like feel. This effect was achieved by careful selection of all the building materials. Highly-efficient mechanicalequipment, insulation and appliances were installed. Hardi-plank sidingand trim materials, impervious to rot and termite damage, along with double-insulated windows and doors were chosen for the exterior. The roofwas replaced with a 30-year architectural shingle, and the English ridgetiles were re-installed. Former barge board walls were re-purposed as wainscot and trim in the den and dining rooms. Original pine floors and ceilings and a brick fireplace were restored.
